The First Nations NGO Alliance Reflection on Anzac Day 2026

Allies for Children stands in solidarity with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and families and we support the statement by the First Nations NGO Alliance and acknowledge the harm and impact caused by the racist and offensive disrespect shown to Elders during the Welcome to Country at Anzac Day Services.
When we are offered to experience a Welcome to Country, it is a moment to participate in ceremony and acknowledge history and leadership. In every Welcome and in every acknowledgement of Country, we have an opportunity to learn and reflect. The positive encouragement and clapping for Elders and the behaviour of all people who respect the Welcomes are the example we all need to embrace.
What we challenge - or allow to pass unchallenged - sets the standard in our homes, our workplaces, schools and in every corner of every community. We reaffirm our commitment as Allies to confront and call out racism wherever it exists, including in our laws, policies and systems.
