Target 12 is everyone’s
responsibility.

Closing the Gap Target 12 can move in the right direction

Together, we can address the over-representation of First Nations children and young people in the child protection system so they can thrive in culture and with kin.

With five years left before we reach Australia’s goal of reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in care by 2031, united action between peak bodies, leaders and mainstream organisations can bring progress.

Allies for Children was formed because we recognise the positive impact we can make on Target 12 when we work as allies together with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders, Peaks, Commissioners and communities.

Close the Gap Target 12 is demanding something different from non-Indigenous organisations.

Join us in supporting children to be cared for in culture, with kin and in community.

SNAICC Sector Transformation Principles Framework

SNAICC’s Sector Transformation Principles Framework is a call for governments and the broader service system to shift power, funding and accountability to ACCOs so Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and families are supported through culturally grounded, self-determined and community-controlled services.

"Being an ally means changing ourselves. Progress towards Target 12 is possible and we can achieve it if we work together.

We are examining and dismantling policies, practices and arrangements within our own organisations that contribute to the overrepresentation of First Nations children in the foster care system, and shifting power, resources and decision making to community-controlled and First Nations led solutions."
